Sometimes the stories of our childhood deserve a revisit. A few years ago I came upon a wonder I had not seen since I a very little explorer. Nestled into a mountain hillside, the castle is a fairytale come to life, and as wild as my imagination. Last week I went back to see how its come along.
Stone by stone, pane by pane and weld by weld, one man brought his dream to life over the span of four decades... and he's still working on it!
This lovely bridge has yet to find a resting place, but at least now it has railings...
... hand built trellises now protect the beautiful stained glass...
... while sturdy staircases bring all who visit to the tops of the castle's high towers....
... and lovely arches support it all.
As a little girl this castle served as the vehicle for many a day dream, an anchor for my imagination to hold onto. The walls of this castle hold so many stories for me, and if the sounds of laughter and excitement I heard coming from new generations of little explorers are any indication, many more stories will be made up in its honor for years to come.
