Cool crisp air, bright morning sun and happy chirping birds... is there anything better than stepping outside your tent after a good night's sleep? What about all of that and a great cup of cocoa accompanied by pancakes with strawberries and maple whipped cream?
Camp cooking is a bit of an adventure all on its own. Even before you set off to climb that mountain, you have to start a fire, get a bed of coals going and somehow manage to assemble all of the ingredients together without too much dirt or ash making its way in... or at least accept it as a part of the necessary camp "seasoning."
Whipped cream is definitely harder to make in a small bowl by hand than at home in the mixer, but you can't beat the view. And if you're anything like us you might have to improvise hot chocolate because you forgot to bring any sort of drink besides water, but that can be fun too. We made ours with left-over chocolate pieces from last night's S'mores, cream and hot water - which, by the way, turned out to be amazingly good!
It all takes much more time than eating an energy bar or some cold cereal or even instant oatmeal, but that's what's great about camping - the only thing that matters is the activity at hand...
... and every activity, even one as simple as making breakfast, is full of problem solving, ingenuity and a great sense of accomplishment.
