How Groundhog's Garden Grew by Lynne Cherry is one of our favorite books. Beautiful, informative and thoughtful, it brings life to every aspect of gardening from seed collecting, to planting, to cooking a wonderful feast at harvest time. No wonder Annie and her son love it too!

Here is what Annie wrote to us about this lovely book:
"My 3 year old son loves construction equipment, books, gear, guys, and stories and it's not often that he gravitates towards a book without these things. But he frequently asks to read this book. It's the story of Little Groundhog and how he learned to garden with the help of his friend Squirrel. The illustrations are gorgeous and the details are stunning.
I'm not sure what it is exactly that draws my son to the book but I'd like to think that it's because of the parallels between Groundhog's garden and ours. We're growing many of the same vegetables and doing many of the same things in our garden. It must be difficult for a 3 year old mind to understand 'garden time', to grasp how planting a seed now will yield fruit later. Perhaps this book presents all of these familiar sights - seeds, flowers, tomatoes, etc - in a time frame that he can understand.
Or maybe he wants to read it because I beg him to. :)
Annie"

Thank you so much Annie for sharing your thoughts on this great book! Now all that we can hope for is that our garden grows as successfully as Little Groundhog's!
