The season of apples is definitely upon us, and we couldn't help but make one of our favorite apple treats... applesauce!
Made from whatever combination of apples we have on hand, all we do is peel, chop and simmer them with enough water to come to just below the top of the apples in the pot.
After an hour or so on the stove it should be ready to eat, but you'll know for sure when most of the liquid is gone and the apples are falling apart. We prefer to leave it rustic, so we don't mash or blend ours. Instead of adding sugar, we adjust the sweetness by the different types of apples we add to the pot. This particular batch was made from Gala, Honeycrisp and even a couple of Granny Smith's because we love a little bit of tartness. So simple and wonderful it's hard to believe we don't make it every day!
