Cobweb is a five year old Jacob ewe. When she was born she had been oxygen deprived and was barely alive. She ended up with cerebral palsy but through shear determination learned how to walk with a wiggle or two in her behind.
One morning this summer, I think it was late June, she could not walk. Since then it has been a journey of caring. Getting a little better then falling back, each time inching closer to recovery. It has not been a straight line. I have a deep bed of straw in her stall so she is well cushioned and can almost experience standing from time to time. There have been signs she might someday become ambulatory.
I keep my mind on the "now" and have tried to experience her journey with the same hope you can see in her eyes.
But on Sunday morning as I was letting out the ewes, she got very excited...
... when I opened her stall she stood up and got going, walking!... she was determined to get outside. You can just imagine my surprise.
She spent the next hour walking, you could not get her to stop. I think she was re-wiring her brain, or was afraid if she stopped she would not start again.
Monday we rested Tuesday she stood for her meal each time, not quite ready to walk a great distance again. I think we are on the mend!
