Along with the late fall mushrooms that seem to pop up everywhere, so too begins the holiday season, full of good food, friends and family and tasty sweets. In an effort to mix a little nature education in with our sugar rush, we decided to make models of wild mushrooms out of marzipan.
Whether bought at the store or made at home, marzipan can be easily rolled and molded almost like play dough. Mushroom shapes can be simply crafted and embellished with coco powder...
... or a little natural food coloring.
Not wanting to confuse any little mushroom collectors on their next outing, we only made models of edible mushrooms with the help of our favorite Audubon Field Guide.
Add a few chocolate shavings to the mix, and you'll have a wonderful scene of woodland mushrooms perfect for your next gathering... or as treats for your little fungi experts!
Happy Modeling!
