There's something about a handmade stocking that makes the holiday just a bit more special. We've made many different versions throughout the years, but this one by far is our favorite.

Made from plant dyed wool felt and sewn together with a simple blanket stitch, they are soft, sturdy and oh so sweet over the fireplace. Instead of making a pattern we simply draw a rough outline of a stocking shape onto a piece of paper and cut it out along with the applique's that we would like to add on. This is a great project for little hands to help with too, and we think there couldn't be anything better than the shape of a star drawn by a four year old!

Once everything is cut out we sew the edges and applique's together by hand with a blanket stitch, and add a button to help strengthen the loop for hanging.

We like the way it looks when we cut the the trees and stars in half and sew them onto both sides (which also strengthens the seams) but the shapes can be applied in any way you'd like.

And of course, what would a handmade stocking be without a holiday mouse to keep it company and some...

... candy canes, chocolate gold coins and a little sugary coal...
It is with much gratitude to all of our lovely blog readers that we would like to give away one of these beautiful handmade stockings and a sweet little holiday mouse.
