Toffee Bark:
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups flour (we like unbleached white whole wheat)
1tsp baking powder 1tsp salt 1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 to 1 1/2 cups sliced almonds (for topping)
12 oz chocolate chips (for topping)
Combine dry ingredients, butter and vanilla with hands until it reaches a pea consistency, then pat into a parchment lined 11" x 17" pan and bake 25min at 275 degrees or until the outer edges of the crust are golden brown.
Take out of the oven and spread the chocolate chips over the top and return to oven until chips are glossy and melted (see photo above). Spread chocolate with a butter knife to cover the entire surface and then sprinkle on the almonds. Cut while still warm...
