This past week the wind has become a part of our daily routine, but
yesterday it was dangerous, 70 mph at times, that's hurricane strength! I had to make sure all the farm supplies and equipment were secure so that they would not fly away.
At one point standing upright was a challenge. I kept the animals in the barn until it passed.
When I went out to look for the draft horses I couldn't see them anywhere....
They found the arroyo and the green grass at the bottom of it...
... and they were both happily grazing as the wind whistled up above.
My Great Grandparents were sheep herders in Montana in the 1800's and they sought out land that had arroyos so they could pack the sheep in during winter blizzards.
I like arroyos except during a heavy rain when they flood, so do the coyotes who build their dens there into the sides just above the flood
line.
Coyotes are pretty smart...
