OK Moms... step away from the computer and hand it over to your partners and children... this is a top-secret project for them... for you.
Made from a few simple ingredients with no baking required these sweet little turtles are the perfect Mother's Day gift project for crafters of any skill level... not to mention how fun they are to make!
Turtles are symbols for Mother Earth, healing and knowledge, and turtle candies are amazing in their sweet, chewy, crunchy, chocolaty goodness, so we couldn't think of a better love-gift for a Mom on Mother's Day.
You will need:
Caramels ( Homemade like these here or 1 bag of store bought)
1 Bag raw almonds
1 Bag slivered almonds
1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
Taking one caramel in hand place one whole raw almond in the center and work the rest of the caramel around it so that the almond is completely in the middle of the confection.
To make the head, cut the pointed end of another almond off and press into one side of the caramel almond ball you just made.
Follow this by pressing 4 almond slivers on two sides to make the legs and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
Then in the microwave, a double boiler, or in a metal bowl on a pot filled with boiling water, melt the chocolate slowly. Make sure not to overheat.
As soon as the chocolate chips are completely melted and smooth but not runny, use a rubber spatula to carefully dollop chocolate over the top "shell" portion of each turtle.
Once complete, chill until chocolate is cool and hard, then wrap in wax paper and store in the fridge until ready to gift.
Happy Mother's Day!
