Little Miss Merry, her whole name is Merry Legs, is our most treasured pony, just 11 hands tall (4 inches to a hand).
She is small but mighty. A year ago she foundered in all four hooves, (it is sort of like gout in humans), we think a batch of hay had too much sugar in it. She endured recovery with great spirit... she had more to say.
Dan our farrier took the journey with us, first with rubber boots and pads to relieve the pain, then with careful hoof trimming... it is an art.
It took one year to grow new hooves replacing the damaged ones, in these pictures Dan is trimming Merry saying these are healthy hooves.
We are really lucky to have Dan, not may will get down on their knees to trim a pony's hooves.
When he is all done, Merry leans into him and you can almost hear her saying thank you...
... gratitude between man and horse.
