Everyday I am amazed by the "building blocks" that surround me...
... trees and other plants are good examples...
... but rocks, in all their shapes, types and sizes create the foundation of these beautiful structures. Massive and grand in scale and impression, rocks are like windows to the center of the earth... allowing us just a peak into the amazing molding, melting, twisting and turning that happens below the surface...
... admittedly I am a bit of a rock fanatic, and can't help but be endlessly fascinated by the geology I see around me every day.
On a recent hike I saw a wonderful example of this that I just had to share. A sense of mystery pervades as it remains hidden for the majority of the trek, but then, just around a bend it appears...
... Royal Arch, located in Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado is a spectacular feat of geologic magic. If you have ever had the good fortune of visiting the sandstone versions in Utah, Royal Arch is a bit different, but equally as impressive...
... it's as if two slabs of rock fell into each other, but instead of an A-Frame, they created an arch. Solid and imposing, Royal Arch is like a passport to a time long since past. A vivid reminder of what the Earth has gone through to give us the beautiful land we walk on today...
