This recipe was created after talking with Georgia of the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and getting an understanding of what our dear birds love to eat.
I loved the incorporation of the whole eggs, shells and all, into the mixture...
... I remember my Great Grandmother feeding egg shells to her chickens... I had always wondered about that.
I left these cookies without holes to string them up, but that certainly can be done....
Instead I choose to leave them out as extra treats in the bird feeders... isn't that what a Cookie is?
Bird Cookies:
Mix in a bowl by hand until crumbly:
1 Cup of Whole Wheat Flour
1 Cup of Crack Oats or Regular Oats
1/2 Cup of Butter unsalted
1/2 Tsp of Baking Powder
Add:
2 Eggs
Just drop in the whole egg, shell and all.
Remember to wash your hands when working with raw eggs.
Add:
1 Cup Blue Berries
1 Cup of Bird Seed
Knead on a sheet of parchment paper
Cut out in any shape that would be fun for your family.
Place cookies on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper
Bake at 325 approx 15 plus minutes until hard and a nice tinge of golden brown.
Then:
Feed the birds!
Remember, this weekend is the Backyard Bird Count and the Random Acts of Kindness Challenge.
