This week something wonderful occurred after sunset in the the dark of night, only to be seen in the glow of the porch light.
Tiny baby Western Boreal Toads appeared. You never see them in the light of day. This mini might is the size of the tip of my little finger! Oh my such a little one....
This is one of his first experiences up from the dark of the earth. There are no ponds on our property so his process of emerging happens in the dark when the earth is just damp enough to dig out.
Yes he has claws for digging. I have watched them as they slip back down into the earth, they dig effortlessly and disappear quickly.
This little toad is a sign that our land is still in balance with nature. We will only see the toads for a few months each summer, this little one will only be around for a month before he heads back to the dirt to sleep through the long winter....
To the little toads who teach us how to share the land... together!
