Yes it's cheesy, but geology really does rock. From igneous to sedimentary to crystals, geology has a wealth of information to keep one (me) occupied for a great deal of time. Admittedly I geek-out on geology at least once a week, or day, but when it's something you interact with everyday it's hard not to. There are just so many interesting things to learn, for example did you know...
... the gulf of California is a spreading zone, so millions of years from now it will be an ocean?...
... or that diamonds are older than dinosaurs? The youngest diamond found was over 900 million years old...
... or that quartz and feldspar are the most common minerals on earth? Geology is one of those things you can learn about everywhere, which makes it great for everything from walks to school to the summer road trip.
That's why we want to make sure you have the tools you need to learn all you can by giving away a copy of the National Audubon Society Pocket Guide to Familiar Rocks and Minerals along with a sample of Amethyst, Malachite, Quartz and a streak plate to test them on!
For a chance to win a copy of this lovely book and beautiful rock samples, simply leave a comment on this post by 12pm MST Wednesday September 21st. The winner will be chosen by random number and announced Thursday September 22nd.
And the Lucky winner is... Mudmama who said:
"We'd love this! We're seting up a "Wonder Cabinet" in our living room for the kids and this would be very welcome, we need a good rock field guide."
Thanks for participating everyone!
