It's been cold, this morning thirteen below. For the last two days the horses have worn their blankets. They were double blanketed, one heavy, topped off with a lighter one. Horses do not need blankets but I have found winter is gentler on them if they wear them. They are easier to keep (consuming less hay, while keeping their weight). By this afternoon we were back into the mid thirties, blankets came off and the horses just wanted to roll in the snow. I think they get itchy from wearing them.
Dear Flo just could not wait and was the first down. She rolled and then rolled some more, making a snow angle! I love how she brings her front knees almost to her nose. She is an Appaloosa with stockings that have lightning bolts on them... that's quite a special marking for an Appaloosa.
With her eyes closed you can almost imagine how she is enjoying the creation of her snow angel.
Then with one great gesture she is up and shaking off all the snow before she could get wet.
To shaking it off...
