A few nights ago I arrived down at the barn just after dark, the barn lights were on but something was different. Rocky was not in his run, he was in front of the barn trotting excitedly from Iggy's paddock across the road to Sky and Abby. I could hear the girls neighing in a very high pitch, then watched Rocky go across the road back to Iggy touching noses as if whispering, repeating this activity several times....I quickly opened the barn door and luckily Rocky went right in!
When all the horses were in, Iggy stayed to the back of his stall acting as if he had done something. I went to figure out how Rocky got loose and to my surprise his gate was open missing the old halter I use to keep it closed. Old halters make great gate fasteners, horses usually can not undo them. Our pony Merry came to us with a reputation as an escape artist, and even she could not undo a fastened halter, but she could undo just about every other closure we could think of.
Well it turns out a horse can undo a fastened halter. Iggy had let Rocky out so they could play. As you can see he tried again for the camera.
We now are trying a new fastener, which appears to be working, at least for the moment... dear Iggy so loves to play. Notice his lower lip sticking out as if he is sad that we found a way to stop him from letting Rocky out.
My that must have been such a fun moment for the both them..
To freedom.....
