In the midst of a gray winter day I caught a little bit of love out of the corner of my eye. With Valentines Day fast approaching, now is the time to share... these two dear friends who on most days are many feet apart. Sky the chestnut is lead mare and she keeps everyone in their place, so to catch this moment was extraordinary!
For both to be so expressive with their eyes and the manner in which they are leaning into each other, there is a true sense of caring being expressed between the two.
Did you know a horse never forgets another horse even if they have not seen each other for years? Their sense of smell helps them identify old friends. You can tell by their excitement, they start dancing around, (it's hard to keep four feet in one place) when they reunite with an old friend.
Each night when I bring in all the horses to the barn from different pastures (geldings in one pasture, mares in another) the barn fills with neighing and some squealing as all great each other. They get upset if someone is missing and really do not relax until they have returned to their stalls.
To dear friends, to sharing with them, and to never forgetting...
