This winter has been a bit tricky so far. Just when the all the snow is finally melted, and the arena dried out, it snows again. This is making things a little difficult for Jordan and Rocky...
... it has been six months since Rocky had surgery on his left hind leg to remove a calcium deposit that was causing him pain. Two months of stall rest were followed by twice daily walks and a return to a small pen outside for fresh air. But as soon as it was time to start riding again, the snow came, causing muddy conditions that are just too much for his healing joint.
Fortunately though, the driveway seems to dry out pretty quick, so Jordan and Rocky do what they can, they walk, and walk, and here and there they trot a few strides in hand.
Walking back and forth can get a little boring sometimes, so they break things up by stopping from time to time to do a little "ground work," like asking Rocky to put his head down and relax when he gets too excited (being a Thoroughbred, this happens frequently).
But little by little, stride by stride, Rocky is getting stronger, and when that arena finally dries out, I have no doubt he will be ready to go!
To walking and riding, and all that is learned in between.
