It's the light not the temperature that tells Merry her winter coat can go, but she needs a little help. She has rolled and itched against almost every surface she stands next to, luckily I am here to remove some of that hair.
Sometimes it's hard to know when it's time to help, I will start combing and just a little will let go, then the next day it just falls off. Today it's hair on her back and her forehead that is ready to shed.
On Bryn Du Farm we do not need to leave out nesting material for the birds, Merry on a windy day, spreads the material far and wide for all who can use it. She is not ready to let go of her belly hair just yet, that needs to stay, maybe there are still some more cold days coming our way. Her belly hair is up to 6 inches long, she really is actually quite trim under all of that.
The mane is just as thick yet it wants to stay, nothing prettier than a long white mane on a little pony, I think a ribbon might adorn it, when she has completely shedded out. This can go on for days.
To dear Merry and our spring ritual, to the return of the birds and to nesting. The wild hare love Merry's hair too! I am sure it is making it's way into some baby bunny's nest as I write.
Hoping you are finding signs of Spring coming your way and to those on the other side of the hemisphere signs of fall!
Many Blessings...
~Deb
