March came in like a lion with the wind blowing strong all month long. Not a snow flake in sight during a month that should be our snowiest. It made for great kite flying! There have been nice days in between, but they were unseasonably warm. The farm land is crisp and crunchy under your feet. Not much to graze on.
Then just yesterday a site that sends chills down my spine appeared in the sky, that's not a cloud, it's smoke filling the horizon, as far as the eye could see.
The fire is in the mountains, miles away from us, but that wind is not helping the fire fighters out and it continues to grow. My thoughts go out to all those in harms way. Just a year from last September our farm had a fire in the trees just behind our barn. I know the fear, the exhaustion, in moving all that is dear, as quickly as one can. The sheep were the hardest to move they just did not want to go into our neighbor's trailer without trying to jump out before we could get another one in. The horses got right in their trailers, even Iggy who had never been in one before without his mom, they new. None were hurt in the move, our adventure had a happy ending, all were safe and no buildings were lost due to the brave fire fighters, who acted so quickly and neighbor's who came to the rescue.
To mother nature, and to all in her arms. May we learn to live together, caring for the needs of each other. May we hear nature's whispers, before it is to late to respond.
