Spring is almost here...
... green shoots are beginning their journey...
... new colors are everywhere...
... there's sun on the ground...
... and growth all around.
Last year we measured the season with our Spring Theater. This year we decided to make something to measure another group of sweet sprouts all together!
With a few scraps of fabric, a little paint and a permanent marker this cloth growth chart came together in no time at all.
Spring Growth Chart:
Using a 12" x 48" piece of scrap fabric, sew a heavy canvas (or whatever you have on hand) strip onto the top an the bottom to give it a bit of structure. You may either leave the edges raw, or finish them by folding them over by 1/4" twice and sewing them down. To hang the chart attach two ribbon ties to each top corner. Hang the chart with the bottom edge at 12"- 24" from the floor depending on how high you would like your chart to go.
Once the base is ready, use a ruler and a permanent marker to make a vertical center line with marks every half inch.
On small scraps of fabric paint your favorite shapes from nature. They can be silhouettes of leaves and flowers, leaf prints (made by painting leaves and using them as stamps) or whatever shapes your family enjoys. If you'd like, you can even put names, ages, and dates on the fabric squares for each of your little sprouts.
Then just pin them on and add new ones as your family grows up the chart!
