A few weeks ago I was overjoyed at the news that my dear friend Jessica was getting a bee hive. I immediately inquired as to how much honey I could steal from her, but sadly the hive she had taken over from a friend had barely made it through the winter. There was very little honey to be collected, and she wasn't even sure they would make it through the summer.
That is until she heard something, something familiar... but magnified, and oh so wonderful...
... it was a swarm!
Jessica's husband Dean and a good friend bee-suited-up and through some careful maneuvering captured the swarm and transferred them safely to the hives.
When I came to check it out a few days later the bees looked right at home, busy as can be.
Jessica and her family are practicing biodynamic beekeeping (and gardening too!), so I won't be seeing any of that delicious honey until next spring, but in the mean time I have the bee's busy activity to keep me entertained.
Thank you bees!
