On Tuesday I heard the news that one of my all time favorite authors had departed on a new adventure, one I could not go on. To be quite honest I was sad, I found myself choking back tears at the loss of someone I had never even met, well not in person anyway. I went for a walk to clear my head and I found myself looking, but for what? I peeked around corners, hoping to catch a glimpse. Ducked under tree branches and peered under rocks, whatever it was I couldn't find it. Feeling defeated I headed home, but I just couldn't shake the feeling that I was missing something...
... or rather, someone. I finally figured it out, I was missing my friend. Luckily all I had to do was open a book and turn a page and there he was, in all his wolf suit glory.
As I leafed through the pages and re-read the story for the millionth time I realized the friend I had made on those pages so many years ago hadn't really gone anywhere...
... he was still there in every terrible roar, tooth and yellow eye...
... he was still there, ruling over every wild rumpus...
This week we said goodbye to a dear literary friend, who, if you were lucky enough helped to shape your childhood in the same amazing and unforgettable way he shaped mine.
If you were not lucky enough (and even if you were) we want to make sure you get a copy of the wonderful magic contained in the pages of this fine book...
For a chance to win a copy of this book, simply leave a comment on this post by 8am MST Thursday May 17th . The winners will be chosen by random number and announced later that day.
And the winner is Patricia who said:
"What a wonderous giveaway - if we win, it will be treasured forever!"
Thank you to everyone who participated!
For all the curiosity, excitement, fear and joy you brought to my childhood Mr. Sendak... thank you.
