You can smell fall in the air, that crisp bite when you breath in, that wasn't there until just recently. With it arrived an overcast day. You can see that the pastures are ready for a rest, the drought was hard on them this summer. Up until now everything has been too dry, except Iggy and his hay.
Iggy is a dunker, he just loves to take his hay and drop it into the water trough. He then mixes it around in the water, playing until that magic moment when the hay is just right. He restores the hay from it's dried state to that of just cut hay, moist and tender.
He is doing this on a day when the wind is strong and it's blowing his maine every which way. Equally dividing it, first to the left then to the right and so on down his neck.
Cold bite in the wind, wonderful mountain hay and a trough full of water is all this three year old needs to make his day. I love a horse that dunks it's hay, it means that through our summer drought this little guy was getting the fluids he needed to keep his digestion in good shape.
