Last week I was honored to be invited down to the San Diego Children's Discovery Museum to make maps and explore imaginary worlds (an activity from our book Imagine Childhood: Exploring the World Through Nature, Imagination, and Play). It was truly a wonderful experience with a fantastic group of kids and, needless to say, a lot of fun!
We talked about methods of exploration, about places we'd like to visit (both real and imaginary) and what they might look like. Then we set in to the important work of making maps, flags and hats to help us along our trip.
{A few of the maps hanging out to dry. The pink one in the front is "a map of the road from my house to my cousin's house" according to the little cartographer. LOVE that.}
And well, it just wouldn't be a real adventure without a good boat, some spotting scopes. . .
. . . and an amazing crew.
Thank you so much SDCDM for hosting this wonderful event!
