Looking out my window today, I can definitely identify with the protagonist in this book. Snow blankets the ground, and frigid temperatures make it feel like anything but spring.
Yet just like the young boy, I have hope. And Then it's Spring by Julie Fogliano with lovely illustrations by Erin E. Stead captures that hope, and so much more.
Each page is filled with the anticipation, frustration, and the delightful imagination that spring carries with it. Will the brown ever turn to green? WIll the rain help the seeds grow? And my personal favorite, are the big lumbering bears stomping out the seeds?
The signs are subtle, yet ever present. Day by day, little by little spring begins her journey from the sleepy earth, to the bright warm sun. Until one day, as it usually goes, the brown isn't brown any more, its not even a warmer brown... it's spring!
This book is a perfect bridge from winter to spring. Full of unexpected insights and sweet, yet unassuming moments, carried through by the bright and expressive illustrations, And Then it's Spring is the kind of picture book you really will want to read again and again.
Which is why we want to share a copy with you!
