Stormy summer afternoons, and nights spent tucked inside a sleeping bag with a flashlight are a perfect recipe for a good book.
Whether you befriend the friendliest giant of them all...
... or go on witty journeys of the imagination...
... or end up in a wild tesseract...
... there are few things better than a good literary adventure.
I've focused a lot recently on a few of my favorite new picture books, so I thought it was time to delve back into a few books that have now reached the "classic" stage. This trifecta of imaginary forces is storytelling at its finest.
From the unlikely friendship and delightful, heartfelt adventures of The BFG, to the masterfully witty and downright funny travels of Milo and his alarm clock dog, Tock, to the surreal and vivid ramblings of friends caught in tesseracts, these three books are some of the best children's literature, period. They are the kind of books that stay with you, not just weeks and months after you read them, but for decades.
It's books like The Phantom Tollbooth, The BFG, and the A Wrinkle in Time that ease the sometimes scary journey from little kid to big kid and beyond. They teach lessons and tell stories that help to navigate new territories and give direction on how to proceed; all while entertaining the reader to the very last word. Each is a wholly and completely necessary act of literature every child should have the chance to experience. Which is why we are giving all three to one of you lucky ducks!
For a chance to win The Phantom Tollbooth, The BFG, and A Wrinkle in Time simply leave a comment on this post by 8am MST Thursday July18th. The winner will be chosen by random number and announced later that day.
And the winner is Kayla who said:"I loved these books as a kid! I can't wait to read them to my children."
Thank you to everyone who participated!
