Just like Bill Nye (The Science Guy) says in the forward to this book, math is everywhere. And you can either embrace it and (hopefully) love it, or you can spend many a night cursing it (like I did most of my youth).
Perhaps I might have liked it more if I felt there were some "shortcuts", or ways that tricked me into believing it was easier than it felt. Luckily for many kids out there math is fun.
And now that I am a bit older, and some days wiser, I find The Secrets of Mental Math fascinating. Maybe, just maybe, this math phobic kid can find a few ways to get ahead of the curve? I hope so. And for people like my best friend you can do calculus in their head?
This book still has a few tricks up its sleeve that will impress even
that smarty pants.
Want even more ways to make math fun? Are you a more hands on kind of learner, of have a little one that is? This Playful Math Kit is a blast! This fun kit brings fractions to life, plays around with addition
and subtraction, inspires mathematical exploration, all in addition to
just being a great set of blocks.
So what happens, pray tell, when we put these two fun and inventive math activities together?... Mathemagic! (Yep, had to say it).
We love magic around here, and we love the magic of leaning even more. So to keep the school year going on the right track we are giving away a copy of The Secrets of Mental Math, along with a Playful Math Kit! Yay!
For a chance to win a copy of The Secrets of Mental Math, simply leave a comment on this post by 8am MST Thursday October 10th. The winner will be chosen by random number and announced later that day.
And the winner is...
