Friendship, loyalty, right from wrong, you name the moral dilemma, and our good friend Aesop has a story to illustrate the problem. After a bit of research, I can now confirm there are more of these life lessons than I can shake a stick at. Yet some more than others, stay with us.
And if we are really lucky, artists and illustrators like Jerry Pinkney, bring them to life. We first fell in love with his work with the publication of the much loved The Lion and the Mouse. Like Pinkney's first magical foray into the world of Aesop's fables, The Tortoise and the Hare is a delight for the eyes.
Light on words but heavy on imagination, this beautiful rendition of the classic tale takes place in America's Southwest.
Cacti, bandannas and colorful garb bring the animal characters to life, while every few pages a new word is revealed, culminating in the age old lesson...
... slow and steady wins the race. We can't seem to put this gorgeous book down, and we are pretty sure you won't ba able to either. Which is why we think one of you lovely readers should have a copy!
And the winner is Caitlyn who said:
"I loved this story as a child. Those illustrations are just breathtaking!"
Thanks for participating everyone!
