From the first pages the mission of this book is clear, put down the screens and technology and use what you have to bring beauty into your world. That parents and caregivers should fight for creative time, and creativity is a right as much as it is a skill.
This book is the definition of "Go-to". Although the term "giant" does not in fact reference the size of the book, (its actually a great size for on the go activities) as much as the the giant amount of activities within its binding. From the author of Unplugged Play, The Giant Book of Creativity for Kids provides literally hundreds of fun and engaging projects to keep the creativity flowing.
With a clear and concise structure, the book introduces what Connor calls the "7 Principles of Child Creativity." Form there the book is divided into sections starting with Family Creativity, and is then further divided by age group.
As you flip through the pages each section is filled with fun activities including: art, building and construction, music, dance, pretend, and creativity with words.
So what do you do when you get an advanced copy of such a wonderful book? Dive on in of course! I recently got to spend an afternoon with a young family friend (age 3) so she and I set aside some indoor time to get creative. While she went to work on some lovely Scribble Drawings (shown above), I tried my hand at the Color and Shapes Collage project. I'll just say it, I like her scribble drawings better than my collage, but that's kids creativity for you.
What is so great about this book is that the projects are accessible. The instructions are short and to the point. Nothing is overly elaborate, but can be if you want. It's open-ended. Each project is like a jumping off point, which we really love around here. Not only that but Connor offers suggestions to take crafts to the next level, like using your Color and Shape Collage as the base for party invitations, or setting up a scribble art gallery in your living room.
With an approachable tone, great quotes from experts in the field, and fun projects to boot, The Giant Book of Creativity for Kids is a resource we know will be at your fingertips for years to come.
