. . . 30 days of love

Earth Day is once a year. . .

. . . but this big beautiful world is too amazing to celebrate for just one day. . .

. . . so we made this sweet little adventure kit. . .

. . . filled with wonder. . .

. . . and lots of love . .

. . . to bottle as much of the Earth's magic as we possibly can.

This easy to construct kit packs a lot of fun into a small pretty package. With magic sea glass, a special corked bottle, and exciting daily adventures, it's guaranteed to be a hit with the kids while encouraging them to take a moment to appreciate how lucky we all are to live in such a big beautiful world.

 

30 Day Adventure Kit

Materials:

• Glass bottle or jar
• 30 Sheets of scrap paper (small enough to easily fit in the bottle)
• Sea glass or stone
• Ribbon or string
• Pencil or typewriter

 This adventure kit is something a parent or caregiver can gift to a child, or a kid can make for a friend. Simply place 30 sheets of paper in the bottle along with a note and a piece of sea glass or a special stone.  You can customize the note however you'd like to.  Here's one example of what you could write:

"This small piece of glass has traveled the oceans and seas.  Now it needs your help to explore the rest of the world. If you put it in your pocket it will lead you on many adventures. If you write down what you love after each trip, it will share its MAGIC"

Once all of the components are in the bottle, make a tag and give the gift to a child. Then, for the next 30 days, go on a walk or a hike with the sea glass in your pocket.  When the kids return home, ask them to write down one detail from the adventure that they loved.

Roll up the piece of paper and put it in the bottle.  At the end of 30 days the bottle will be filled with a lot of magical memories!

 

With the Kids: Go on a sensory walk together with your kiddos.  Ask them to be very quiet for 2-5 minutes as they walk in nature. Then, ask them what they heard/felt/saw. Talk about how important every little organism is and how interconnected we all are. Here is a wonderful example of how wolves changed the ecosystem in Yellowstone. Tell "stone stories" sit around together and make up stories about what the piece of sea glass saw and experienced as it wandered through the oceans. After a month, open up all of the tiny scrolls from the bottle you filled and look at how much there is to love about this beautiful world.  Then, talk together as a family about ways you can take care of the Earth so that it stays magical for many generations to come.
