DIY Fairy Boats
Materials:
- Leaves
- Sticks or Bamboo Skewers
- Needle and Thread or String (you may want to bring these along on your walk)
- Scrap fabric (optional flag material)
- Scissors (optional)
- Flowers
- Imagination
Instructions:
Go out on a walk in your neighborhood or a park, or the woods if you live near them. Collect the natural materials listed above and begin dreaming of an adventure as you walk.
If you brought a needle and thread with you, find a nice cozy place to sit. Take your fresh leaves and fold them into a boat shape, or sew together a few if you don't have very big leaves. The key here is to sew gently and use soft, strong leaves. If you pull through the leaves or make a big hole, no worries! Just grab another leaf and start again.
Once you have a boat shape, make a flag out of flowers or scrap fabric and attach it to a stick. Make paddles by cutting paddle shapes out of leaves and attaching them to small sticks or bamboo skewers.
Once your boat is complete, give it to your favorite fairy and spend the rest of the afternoon wandering in wonder. Imagination is the key to our future. Foster a robust imagination in your child by sharing moments of everyday magic like this with them. We promise, you won't regret it.
